Adding to Murphy's ideas,
Adding to Murphy's ideas, it's pretty awkward to browse, choose a class, and then have to return to tell Louie that you want to browse some more. It would seem that if you choose browsing, it would remember that; likewise, searching. If you want to change then there should be an option to switch.
I voted other, though it might technically be usability. My issue is with the degree progress report. The current one is fail. Classes not credited properly, requirements hashed. I have a requirement for a certain number of hours in Science; it does not allow me to mix, for example, Biology and Physics - it expects all credits to be in one or the other. It is also hard to read.
There are things about Louie that rock, though. I love being able to pay online instead of having to schlep up to Gammage, where South Campus parkers are not welcome.
Made for Students
Louie is fine if you are a faculty member at NAU, and that's what it seems to be designed for. As far as students go, there are a lot of things that could be done.
Usability
There are a zillion classes, and not all of them are useful. We need a way to make it clear which classes are actually worth taking. How often have you slogged through Louie looking up class after class trying to find one that isn't full and that satisfies one of your requirements? I've done it way too much.
Being able to hone in on classes that fill requirements and are actually available would be one useful way to find classes. Being able to find ones that are easy, or being able to search by professor would be another. There are also lots of classes which are really only good for people majoring in the subject... but there's no way to tell Louie, "don't give me classes that are only useful for anthropology majors". There are probably more ways that I'm not immediately thinking of...
Can I also say...
Can I also say that Vista/BlackBoard is a P.O.S. too? I mean, what is up with using Java over the web? It pretty much crashes my browser when I load the site. Also the software in general is pretty crappy; it is near difficult to use, it has an inconsistent interface complicating navigation and function, and renders non-valid, deprecated code. This thing feels like it was built 10 years ago (well, it probably was).
If they would pay for my tuition for the next two years, I would be happy to program and implement a replacement by the end of summer :D
